Based in Crewkerne, Somerset, Wydale Plastics have become one of the leading South West rotational moulders, designing and producing varied and innovative products.

We are now looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team and help us grow further, playing a key role in the future success of the business. Reporting to the Directors, you will be responsible for the day to day running and efficient operation of all plant, machinery and equipment, leading and motivating the engineering team, ensuring all quality standards are achieved and health & safety adhered to.

Main Purpose:

To oversee all plant, machinery, equipment and buildings. Manage all planned maintenance, react swiftly to breakdowns and pro-actively improve equipment where required. Develop the workshop personnel’s skills and knowledge, produce SSOW and dynamic RA’s as required. Ensure suitable spares and equipment are held, identify potential problems and resolve in a timely manner. Communicate effectively with all other departments and assist the S&TD with tooling and enquiries as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Ensure health and safety compliance in all areas under your control

· Develop and manage the engineering team within the factory to drive performance and reduce operational costs and downtime

· Develop, measure and report KPI’s

· Identify and resolve recurring issues

· Lead and provide support for major repairs with a hands on approach

· Provide top level information and analysis on all operational areas affected by poor performance

· Identify key components on machinery and hold suitable spares in stock

· Identify and source spare parts and equipment

· Be a point of reference for dynamic risk assessments, permit to work and safe systems of work

· Drive continuous improvement for process, products and equipment through lean techniques to remove waste and improve efficiency

· Ensure processes, documentation and tooling are in place to meet all required quality, cost and production requirements

· Improve and maintain mould tooling

· Liaise with other departments to coordinate repairs and maintenance effectively

· Ensure all plant, machinery, equipment and buildings are subject to statutory inspections as required

· Assist with product and tooling design, source quotes and components

· Identify capital expenditure requirements

Qualifications / Education / Training:

· Engineering degree

· HNC or HND Engineering or Electrical Engineering

· Minimum GCSE in English, maths and science

· Qualified and competent and possess a minimum of level 3 qualification in a manufacturing related mechanical/electrical discipline, e.g. advance apprenticeship, NVQ 3, Electrical NC/ND, C&G electrical and electronic technical certificate

· Software engineering with training in a range of technical systems

· IOSH managing safely

· NEBOSH general certificate


· Minimum 10 years engineering experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management position

· Experience of continuous improvement systems (5S, Kaizen etc) and the ability to translate and implement into a small company environment

· Excellent understanding and appropriate experience in design engineering and manufacturing engineering

· Experience of planning maintenance activities

· Experience of managing people

· Commercial and cost awareness and experience of quoting

· Capable user of MS Office applications

· Experience of SAGE or similar MRP system

Job Type: Full-time

Salary £45,000-50,000 a year
